The history of the "No Quarter" pirate flag:
The classic black skull & crossbones pirate flag, called the "Jolly Roger", meant that any enemies who surrendered would be taken prisoner and allowed to live. If the enemy refused to surrender, the black flag was replaced with a blood red flag, signifying that “No Quarter" would be given, which meant that no mercy would be shown, no prisoners would be taken, and no life would be spared.
